How Many Angels?

There's a pilot program that is using a GPS tracker to locate truant schoolchildren.  It tells of the wonderful change that the truant has made by strapping on this device in the morning.  He's had perfect attendance since.  It also tells of the wonderful life-saving stories of one student who had overdosed on drugs and another who was contemplating suicide.  Both, I take it, were saved.

First, this pilot program is paying about $100/day to track these truants.  This money has been donated by a very kind investor.  Now, of course, because of the "success," the Center for Criminal Justice Solutions is seeking $365,000 to expand the program.  This is our tax dollars at work.  Who do you suppose funded the Center for Criminal Justice Solutions?  Have you ever heard of them before reading this? I certainly didn't.  But even though we funded this, there was no money to do anything except pay their salaries.  So they had to seek outside funds.  And now they want more of our money.  This is a microcosm of our government tax dollars at work.  First it pays for the salaries and then they need more money to do the work.

Second, is the fact that this youngster is on his way to becoming a grade-12 graduate.  That means that he'll be able to get a job... where?  Not anywhere that pays a living wage.  I don't know how it came about that a grade 12 diploma could be so worthless.  But unless this student has the means to go to college, he's going to get very little for his invested time.

Third, this is better than locking the student up.  True.  This quote came from someone in the National Center For School Engagement.  Who are these organizations?  Is this another government-funded organization?  Other organizations mentioned in this article are The National Dropout Prevention Center and America's Promise Alliance.  There's an awful lot of organizations claiming to be able to do something.  We don't know where they come from or where their money is coming from, but I suspect it's educational grants.  Apparently they are not able to do anything because they are seeking more funds.

There a philosophical question posed: How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?  My question is how long will it take how many foundations to drain the tax dollars out of an economy?

    Tremendous and original point.

At one time the states and localities were the "laboratories of democracy", but now the foundations are the "laboratories of tyranny."
