Melting Sea Ice

Apparently, one of today's reports is that Arctic Sea Ice is melting fast.

First, let's look at the facts.  When ice melts it shrinks in volume by a magnitude of approximately 10%.  This will not increase the volume of the ocean.  It will decrease it.  There is a reason that Al Gore in his film An Inconvenient Truth mentions only land-based glaciers melting.  The volume of land-based melted ice flowing into the ocean will increase the volume (assuming all of his science is correct).  Ice that is already in the ocean is calculated into the volume and if that ice melts, the ocean's volume decreases.  Sea Ice melting is not a problem.  It will not increase the volume of the oceans.  It will decrease it.

Second, let's look at the news report.  They wrote five paragraphs on one single scientific observation: sea ice is melting.  The next paragraph says what the report did not contain: the melting of the sea ice is due to human-caused global warming.  The scientists did not say anything about this because there would be no reason for a scientist to make this conclusion based on observation alone.  However, that does not stop the reporter from trying to make the causal link by innuendo.

Third, the reporter gets a quote from a environmental group that says the ice may be melting faster than climate scientists predicted.  Would this mean the climate scientists don't have their figures right yet?  Let me state explicitly what they won't report.  Ice may or may not be melting faster than predicted.  That's what "may" means.  You may read this blog does not mean you will read this blog.  It means you may or may not read this blog.  It is in essence saying nothing and only indicating a uncertain probability.

However, the reporter has managed to imply that Global Warming is a serious on-going crisis by reporting on a scientific observation and by finding a quote from last month from an environmental group that supports the current media's bias.

The Global Warming Crisis goes on and on due to this kind of reporting.

Derica, you're blog posts (like this one) are always a pleasure to read! But be careful, too much logic and truth is a threat to the Church of Global Warming. Keep up the great work.
